SO, i'm a regular wow player. Yep. Not just an internet addict, /b/tard, or general nerd. A genuine soul-free, blizzard nerd. Thing is, the game is as infuriating as it is enjoyable. Like most MMOs, it has it's fair share of dramas, sure, but wow? Take every stat tard you know, every last calculation they've done, every conceivable notion that they're the geekiest person you know, and compare it to the average ''skilled'' wow player.... and my GOD, you will lose your faith in humanity.
These are people that expect everybody to be on their level, in a game that is as much having fun as it is learning to control your character effectively. Certainly, for many people, the latter will never be a priority. There's so much to explore, so many wonderful little touches that the 'skilled' player will never really see, because they're too busy doing everything as efficiently as possible. They're the guys who get the full 30 odd Frost Emblems every week by raiding Icecrown Citadel (current end game raid, home to the titular Lich King, of the Wrath expansion) twice, Vault of Archavon Twice (PvP permitting - don't get me started on the Wintergrasp Battles) and complete the Weekly Raid Quest regularly (an archmage in Dalaran - itself pretty much a hub to the entire world of warcraft, no pun intended - will set tasks every wednesday to go kill one random entry level raid boss in a randomly selected raid set in Northrend) and farm every Heroic run while whining everything's too easy and everybody sucks cause they're in end game gear and nobody else matches up. They're the guys that whisper you to change your talents to suit them, rather than suit your playstyle, even if you are going for a specific talent build (TBH it's usually the hunters and the Death Knights - I myself have had a hunter tell me to quit wow for not being thankful for the assumption I knew nothing about talents, even after I explained I was doing a specific raid spec that required 15 points into a disliked tree, because I said I wanted to spec into this tree to get the odd points out the way first) and bitch that you don't quite have the right gear, or buffs cast on it, even when you follow guides that tell you you're doing it exactly how you should.
Well... pretty much they're the people the Leeroy Jenkins video was aimed at. Every dungeon, every boss, every single fight must be done in a particular way or you get raged at to QUIT WOW FOREVER (complete with Cruise Control For Cool - caps lock for those of you not complete nerds)
The point of this post? Well, my guild had been organising to go to this End Game Raid, Icecrown Citadel, for like a week. We're all getting hyped up and everything. Come raiding day, only 5 of us turn up. Cue an agonising hour long wait for the 5 people to make up enough for a 10 man raid, and YAY I'M IN END GAME CONTEND *NERDGASM*
... 'Cept, people being people, it was never gonna be that simple. 10 minutes in we come to a group on a set of stairs. 3 Zombies and 2 spiders. The tank pulls the wrong way, and he gets the lot. 'No big deal, surely? Well, obviously, it was a massive deal. Like, super srs manbearpig deal. The spiders do this thing where they seal up the people who gather the most threat, ignoring the tanks (all actions come under an aggravation system called 'threat' Basically it ranks as Taunts > Hight Threat moves > healing > aggression to gain threat A tank's job is to keep his threat at 100% sso enemies do not attack healers or DPS less equipped for soaking up damage) I.E: The healers, the top DPS. In this case, one targetted the highest threat healer, and the highest DPS. Well, i'm happy to say that for once, with my 3 FPS raid conditions, the latter was ME. But being sealed up, my awesomeness was contained. The healers couldn't keep the tanks up, and it ended with everyone dying. Cue /RAGEQUIT from everyone middling the DPS charts according to my telemetry, complaints that WE ALL SUCK (with more caps lock goodness) and the raid fa;;s apart in a total of... ohhh, about 10 minutes.
Remember this when you start Warcraft: The Burning Legion (Original Big Bad), The Lich King (Newer Big Bad), Deathwing (Next Big Bad, in Cataclysm)? None of them compare. None are the biggest threat to Azeroth so much as they're merely a setback. A stepping stone for the people of Azeroth to go on to something bigger. Greater. (You didn't think they'd let an army of evil or an undead upstart from lordaeron decide their fate did you? oh, no no no) And this time, ONLY NERD RAGE WILL INTERFERE. (being a greater threat than anything else seen so far)
*cough* Sorry, little nerdy in game joke there hehe.
Geez, Imagine the lore? Tirion Fordring discussing what happens next for the Argent Crusade in Warcraft 4: ''Well, some brave adventurers ALMOST downed the Lich King. Woulda made things simpelr for us too. But the raid bitched at each other and /ragequit at Sindragosa. So here we are. Three years on. Fighting the same fight. Again.*sigh''
TL;DR? NERD RAGE IS THE GREATEST THREAT TO ANY MMO WORLD. NO DEBATE. NO DISCUSSION.
BRB NERD RAAAAAAAGE *goes to be the next Big Bad of a random MMO*
